A BLOGGER FRIEND NEEDS ADVICE

A dear "online blogger friend" put up THIS POST where they were asking for advice on a memorial area for their pets.  It's the time of year up there where they live where the ground is frozen and they need some ideas.  They've lost several pets and farm animals and they are looking for memorial ideas.  They didn't get any comments and I wasn't sure what to suggest either.

They've had a rough time lately with the losses and I wanted to see if some of our great readers might help give them ideas.
Just sending a little blog love their direction.

Their blog is "Domaine Coquelicots", and they are a self described young couple on a journey to self sufficiency.  Check them out if you can!

  4. How about making stepping stones, you can personalize them with decorative stones, names, leaves and names.

    1. wow, that's a great idea! I love it. I will have to remember that. Some of that concrete you mix with water and a mold, it would be great to personalize each one with little things stuck into the concrete before it hardens. Plus you could put their names too. Thank you for that idea!

  5. I've had so many pets/rescue animals in my time it would be impossible to plant trees, stepping stones etc., the larger animals have had to be buried where I lived at the time, but my 'special ' ones, i.e. cats and rabbits, I have had cremated and kept their ashes in small pine boxes so wherever I go I can take them with me. I know some folks won't understand this, but the loss is so great, it's the only way I can deal with it.

    1. People who have pets and love them like crazy will understand. I know I would. We have three cats, one is over 17 and when the time comes, definitely going for cremation. Gives me chills thinking about it now, I don't want to have to. I'll need some time off when that happens. As I type this, Sydney, the 17 yr old one is laying curled up next to me. When he sleeps, he always likes to touch me. I just leaned over and kissed his furry head. :-)

  6. We too have had pets pass in the winter. We planted two holly trees some years ago and have a small concrete bench supported by two concrete cats in between. There is a newborn pup and two cats resting there. In another area of our yard we have a concrete cat statue as a memorial. When the ground was so cold and hard but a hole had to be dug, we built a small fire to warm the earth first. It made a difficult job a bit easier. It's a good place to reminisce. Gone but never forgotten.
